Dr Elona Toska

Dr Elona Toska is an adolescent health researcher at the AIDS and Society Research Unit & Department of Sociology, University of Cape Town. She co-leads the quantitative component of the Mzantsi Wakho Adolescent Health study, the HEY BABY study on adolescent mothers and their children, and UPLIFT, a new study aiming to understand predictors of lifelong initiation, follow-up and treatment for adolescents living with HIV. Her research has been supported by the International AIDS Society, the UK Medical Research Council, UKAid, UNICEF and Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Elona’s research interests include adolescent sexual and reproductive practices and understanding the social and structural factors which underlie HIV infection and poor sexual and reproductive health in adolescents and young people.
